I’d like to talk about a movie called Wolf Warriors.

It tells a story of a soldier called Leng Feng who’s no longer on duty, well to be exact, who’s was discharged because he broke some kind of rules. And his fiancé was also a soldier, but she died when she was on a mission in Africa. He spent the last threes years in Africa trying to hunt down the bad guys who killed his girl, but accidentally, he was trapped in a rebellion. The Chinese rescue team showed up immediately, but without the permission of the UN, Chinese soldiers couldn’t step in the area where the riot broke out. So as a civilian, he offered to risk his life to save the rest of Chinese who were left behind in Africa.

And the rest of the movie was basically all about how he fought with the rebel forces and how he heroically saved everybody.

At the end of the movie, a Chinese passport showed up on the screen, saying “Chinese citizens, when you are in danger in a foreign country, don’t panic, don’t give up, just remember, your country will always be there protecting you and taking you back home.”

When I was watching this movie, lots of people in the movie theater were moved to tears. And this movie has been a critical and commercial success. I mean, it has received generally positive reviews from critics and audience.

But personally, I think it’s a little exaggerated, ‘cause one man knocking down a whole army is just mission impossible. But then again, I have to admit the special effects and fight scenes were pretty thrilling.

on / off duty = (of nurses, police officers, etc.) working/ not working at a particular time 例如:

  Who's on duty today?

What time do you go off duty?

hunt somebody down = to search for somebody until you catch or find them, especially in order to punish or harm them 例如:

The President warned that terrorists would be hunted down.

break out = (of war, fighting or other unpleasant events) to start suddenly 例如:

They had escaped to America shortly before war broke out in 1939.

Fighting had broken out between rival groups of fans.

Fire broke out during the night.

critical = according to the judgment of critics of art, music, literature, etc. 例如:

the film director's greatest critical success

In her day she never received the critical acclaim (= praise from the critics ) she deserved.

but then again = however; on the other hand 例如:

He might agree. But then again he might have a completely different opinion.

special effects = SFX = unusual or exciting pieces of action in films/ movies or television programs, that are created by computers or clever photography to show things that do not normally exist or happen
